Prague Castle

Pay a visit to the world’s largest ancient castle in Prague and take in panoramic views as you explore the huge grounds. As the historic home of Czech royals, Prague Castle is one of the most popular attractions in the whole country and a must-see on your trip to the city.

To reach it, take the steep walk up the castle steps or hop on tram 22 to Pražský Hrad and start your tour at the Second Courtyard. If you’d like a short walk, get off the tram at Pohořelec and walk through the castle district, Hradčany, toward the main entrance.

The castle grounds cover the area of seven football fields, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes and prepare yourself for lots of walking. As you explore the churches and gardens, winding through alleyways to see the impressive buildings with fairytale architecture, you’ll see some of the city’s best cultural artefacts, so make sure you bring your camera.

When you visit Prague Castle, don’t miss the chance to look around St. Vitus Cathedral, a building that can be seen from right across the city. Stepping inside you’ll see beautiful stained glass windows and a huge, ornate vault, the tomb of St. John of Nepomuk. If you’re feeling brave, you can even climb the 90 metre high tower.

If you decide to take a tour, you have two options to choose from. The Long Tour takes in a large number of sights including the Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of St George, Powder Tower and Rosenberg Palace, while the Short Tour will show you the most important, unmissable castle buildings.
