Santuari de Sant Salvador

For a great experience on your holiday to Calas de Mallorca, don't miss the incredible Santuari de Sant Salvador.

Perched on top of a mountain over 500 metres high, a visit to this old monastery is the perfect way to spend a morning away from the beach. It takes around half an hour to drive to Santuari de Sant Salvador from Calas de Mallorca. With its breathtaking views and rich history, it's definitely worth the short trip, especially if you have a hire car during your holiday.

Built in the middle of the 14th century, the old monastery has lots of great features. As you arrive at the car park, you'll be in the shadow of a huge statue of Christ the King. On a neighbouring peak, there's a large cross that was built in the 1950s, which majestically overlooks the the sweeping valley below. There are steps leading right up to the cross, so don't forget to take your camera to capture the amazing views.

The scenery is spectacular at the monastery too, with the valley to one side and even taller mountains to the other. Imagine the isolated lives that the monks must've led all those years ago as you soak up the stunning panoramas. As you explore the Santuari de Sant Salvador, you'll see elegant carvings and beautiful paintings in the church. Sit on one of the wooden pews for a moment of quiet reflection before you move on to the side chapel by the gatehouse, where there's lots of interesting artefacts.

Enjoy the views from the terrace once more before you leave, or stick around for an incredible sunset if you can. After your visit to the Santuari de Sant Salvador, spend the rest of the day relaxing in the sand at Cala Varques, or head to Cala S'Almonia to see a picture-perfect beach.
