Ponta Da Piedade Portugal

If you're going on holiday to the Algarve, and especially Lagos, a trip to see Ponta da Piedade is an absolute must. The spectacular stretch of coastline is a stunning collection of caves, grottoes and arches, with turquoise sea waters thrown in.

Just a few kilometres south of Lagos Marina, Piety's Point, as it's translated, has rock formations some 20 metres high, and is one of Portugal's most iconic attractions. If you have a hire car you can drive to Ponta da Piedade, where you'll find a free car park.

From here, take the steep steps down to the beach. There are boats waiting to take you out on the water so you can see the incredible scenery. Trips to see the grottoes are short and cheap, and will give you lots of fabulous photo opportunities. As well as the breathtaking colours of the grottoes, you'll see plunging sandstone cliffs, a lighthouse and even flocks of nesting birds if you're there in spring.

If you get hungry after your boat trip, there's a restaurant at Ponta da Piedade where you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy some shelter from the sun. Sit down and admire the view as you sip a refreshing drink and wait for your food to arrive. Grab an ice cream as you leave and take another long look out over the cliffs and across the Atlantic Ocean.

After your trip to Ponta da Piedade, make your way around the coast to the equally picturesque Praia da Marinha for an afternoon in the sun. Or treat the kids to an action-packed visit to Aquashow Park.
