Lobos Island in Fuerteventura

Located just off the north-east coast of Fuerteventura, Lobos Island is a small, beautifully preserved nature reserve with crystal clear waters and stunning rugged scenery. A mere 15 minute boat trip from Fuerteventura's most popular resort, Corralejo, is where you'll find Lobos Island. A truly beautiful place to visit, the small island has remained in a natural state since it was declared a nature reserve in 1982.

A trip to the island is perfect for hiking and taking long strolls while enjoying the gentle breeze of the Atlantic Ocean and the North African sun. With no tourist attractions, it's all about appreciating its stunning splendour. You can walk around Lobos in a matter of hours, with a series of designated walking paths leading you around the island.

At the Mountain of Caldera, the island's ancient volcano, you will find Lobos' highest point measuring at just over 120m. Climb to the peak to find unbelievable views looking out over the island or back to Fuerteventura, and don't forget your camera; even amateur photographers will snap the perfect picture for a postcard.

From the port of Corralejo, regular boat trips are scheduled to take you to Lobos Island in less than 30 minutes. Set out first thing in the morning and return in the afternoon so you have chance to explore the whole island. Clear turquoise waters surrounding the island makes snorkelling a must, as you float along beside the fish and sealife of the Atlantic Ocean. Sea kayaking also comes highly recommended, as you paddle across from Corralejo in 4km of water.

Relax on the white, sandy beach and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere whilst the kids make a splash as they paddle in the sea. Ideal for birdwatchers, living on the island are many species of birds that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

And for all those nature lovers, there is a fantastic plant range, some of which are unique to Lobos Island. There are very few facilities on this island, with one restaurant that gets very busy during peak times in the height of summer. Make sure you take plenty of water whilst exploring everything that this small island has to offer.
